Family Guide: We Celebrate Reconciliation

We Celebrate Reconciliation

 Family Guide

Based on text by Christiane Brusselmans and Brian A. Haggerty.

Published by Silver Burdett Ginn/RCL Benziger, Allen, TX

Dear Family,

Guiding your child as s/he grows, watching your child develop, and helping along the way are all part of the joy of parenting.  Your child is now ready for fruther growth as a Christian and is soon to receive the sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time.  Perhaps without realizing it, you became the reconciler and teacher when you said words such as "Say you are sorry."  When you helped your child show forgiveness to another, when you identified an act as unacceptable, and especially when you showed yourself to be forgiving and reconciling person, you were building the foundation on which future Christian growth would take place.

Suggested Guidelines for Family Participation:

  • Set aside a regular time each week to work with your child in their preparation for First Reconciliation.
  • Find a quiet place where you can work without many interruptions.
  • Read your child's preparitory materials and review them with your child each week.
  • Remember that children do not always express everything in words.  Listen carefully to what your dhild does NOT say as well as what s/he DOES say.
  • Remember to equate everyday occurrances to themes centering on Reconciliation.

Themes in We Celebrate Reconciliation:

God Loves Me

Jesus Guides Me

Jesus Calls Me to Love Others

Jesus Forgives Me

We Can Celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation
